When Life Gives You Lemons, Make Lemonade

Finding healthy drinks for the family hit me not to long ago. Especially with the GMO added to a lot of our food choices. The kids love soda pop, but haha NO! The kids love juices boxes, but there not always as healthy as I would like them to be. Milk is wonderful, but not in the middle of a hot afternoon after the beach. Water is best but not always pleasing for little kids. Kool Aid was my favorite when I was little, but that is a No too after I found out you can dye carpet with it…

I decided to learn how to make kid friendly lemonade. Lemons are healthy, packed with Vitamin C and are an acid and if you remember in Chemistry that help restore our PH levels. Lemons contain cancer fighting compounds, have more potassium then grapes and apples and are great for our liver and bowel.

For us adults lemon water is wonderful but giving that to a kid will probable be a fight. I came up with my own recipe for kid-friendly lemonade that really is easy to make. There are days when I make 3 pitchers throughout the day.

Recipe for Awesome Lemonade:

11/4 cup of fresh squeezed lemons  (about 7 large lemons)
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup boiling water
3 cups of cold water

Squeeze lemons in a measuring cup. Mix hot water and sugar to make a simple sugar and stir. Put lemon juice, simple sugar and water in a pitcher and stir. Add ice. Done!

You can adjust this recipe to make sweeter or less sweet. Even though I have to sweeten my lemonade for the children at least it is from table sugar and not from high fructose corn syrup. Experiment and find just the right taste for your family.

Pucker Up and Enjoy!
