I Am a Survivor

Anorexia Nervosa a name that can scare anyone at any age. Not only can it scare you it can cause a slow torturous death. That sounds harsh and it is meant to. Anyone who is suffering from Anorexia does not usually talk about it even to their closest friends. An eating disorder like Anorexia is only in vogue if you are a prom queen, top model, or famous movie star. What about all the rest of us who may be suffering from this scary disease? Do you shamefully keep it to yourself until some medical crisis happens and you have to finally admit to doctors that you have chosen not to eat to feel good about yourself?

Beauty has become an idea instead of an ideal. Whoever put the notion, especially in other women “Thin is in” or “Men love thin women” or Being thin is healthy and makes you happy? These notions come from powerful media platforms to show women how to be. These powerful platforms only have their own ideas, interests, and investments of perfection to mold women to a standard of unrealistic beauty.  Again, this sounds harsh but it is a harsh disease that takes everything away from the person suffering from it. These platforms have the power to take every women with an image or confidences problem and make them feel less then what God intended.

Anorexia Nervosa is a self inflicted disease that only oneself can cure. Calorie control, diet, and exercise are the addiction and food becomes the enemy. Ultimately it is the person suffering  from the eating disorder that has to make the decision to get better, either through treatment or taking the plunge to take the disease on first hand.

I know about this disease because I am survivor of it. This disease took over my entire teenage years to a low point of 60 pounds. Many doctors and failed treatments tried to help me but it was not until I decided to help myself did I final broke free of this awful disorder.

Through the Grace of God, understanding Jesus with his healing hand and the powerful love of my parent’s, did I get well. My children have made me feel happy, important, complete and a role model to loving myself for being an Original!
